GES Start/End Times to Change by 10 Minutes for 2016-17 School Year
In an effort to better maximize student instruction time, Glenwood Elementary School will begin and end their day 10 minutes later (8:30 a.m./3:35 p.m.) for the 2016-17 school year. The current staggered elementary start/end times often result in buses arriving at, or just after 8:30 a.m. as they complete their morning routes to BES/CES. At the end of the school day, the majority of GES students wait 10-20 minutes after the 3:25 p.m. dismissal for their buses to then complete the BES/CES afternoon routes. These gaps leave less student instructional time than the other elementary schools provide. Thus, over the past year Glenwood Elementary staff, building administration and District administration collaborated to try to find a remedy to this issue. While the ultimate goal is to align school start/end times for all three elementary schools in the future, all agreed that a more immediate solution was needed.  Thus, beginning in August 2016, Glenwood Elementary School’s student day will begin with doors opening at 8:30 a.m., late bell at 8:40 a.m., and student dismissal at 3:35 p.m. This ten-minute change will allow for all of GES buses to arrive and leave at the same time, and - more importantly - will result in gaining 50-60 minutes of instructional time per week.
