29 GES 3rd and 4th grade girls completed a 5k race this weekend as the culmination of the Girls on the Run program. Girls on the Run is an 11 week (24 lesson) program that teaches life skills through dynamic interactive lessons and running games. Girls learn about positivity, healthy lifestyles, avoiding peer pressure, supporting each other, gratitude, friendships and much more throughout the program. “The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.” This year, the girls wrapped up their season with a community service project benefitting a CES student; as well as, by completing the 5k on Saturday with over 1300 other girls on the run. Art Work At SIU School of Medicine!
Glenwood Elementary has some exciting news to share. Four students from our school were chosen to have art work on exhibit at the annual SIU School of Medicine art exhibit. It was titled "Art, Expression Through Young Artists". The following students had their art work on display from April 27-May 15 in the lobby at SIU School of Medicine. Congrats go out to Ashley Barnes who created a pointillism hot air balloon, Elise DeStasio who created a visual texture hand picture, Hannah Gumble who created a symmetrical design with makers, and to Larson Nester who created a layered landscape. This lovely photograph was taken at the awards ceremony on Friday, May 15. A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Nester for taking and sharing the photo.
